IL VIAGGIO - THE  TRIP

On November 25, 2005, in the plain above Olympia, the first priestess of the temple of Hera, played by the beautiful Thoedora Siorkou, after the classic evocation to Apollo, generated the sacred fire from which the fire for the Olympic flashlight was obtained. After the creation of the flame, the priestesses collected an olive branch offered by a boy. With this same branch and with the flame contained in a small brazier, the 19 priestesses went to the plain named after Baron De Coubertin. Then, with the sacred fire, the Italian flashlight was lit and handed over to the first torchbearer, Kostas Filippidis, who started the journey with the flashlight towards Turin. The torch covered 2.006 kilometers in Greece and on December 6, in Athens, it was handed over to the organizers of the Winter Olympic Games in Turin.

The day after the "sacred fire" came to Rome to resume his journey on December 8, when the President of the Italian Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi lit the torch of Stefano Baldini, the first italian torchbearer of "Torino 2006" then,  for two months, it traversed the whole of Italy as well as crossing the border into several neighbouring countries: Vatican City the Republic of San Marino, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland and France.

Also I have participated in this beautiful "trip", carrying the Olympic torch from Ariccia to Albano.
